During Nov. 1-3, IUFRO 2017 Genetics and Genomics of Fagaceae and Nothofagaceae cosponsored by Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden (Shanghai Chenshan Plant Science Research Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences) and America' Morton Arboretum was successfully held at Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden. More than 60 scholars and experts from China, the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Japan and the Philippines attended the meeting.
The meeting's theme was "Frontier Progress in Genetics and Genomics of Fagaceae". It set six topics, including fagaceae genomics, adaptive evolution, phylogeny, biogeography, conservation, etc. World-famous scholars Prof. Jean Romero - Severson (University of Notre Dame, USA), Prof. Victoria Sork (University of California, Los Angeles, USA), researcher Antoine Kremer (INRA), Prof. John Carlson, (Pennsylvania State University, USA), Prof. Chuck Cannon (Morton Arboretum, USA), Prof. Sun Ye (South China Agricultural University), Researcher Deng Min (Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden) and a number of other well-known domestic and foreign scholars shared 23 academic reports, exchanged ideas and discussed the latest developments in fagaceae research and the frontiers of research. During the meeting, for Chinese scholars' weak links in the application of second generation sequencing technology and R analysis, special training sessions on MIG-seq technology and the application of R language in phylogenetic analysis were held and won praise from the participants.
Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden will work hard to give full play to its strengths, take advantage of international cooperation, use distinctive plant research and superb horticultural technology to benefit society.
