On Sept. 18, the lotus resource nursery at Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden (Shanghai Chenshan Plant Science Research Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences) formally put up the brass plates of "International Lotus Collection" and "First National Lotus Germplasm Bank", became China's first International Lotus Collection.

In 2014, the lotus resource nursery was built at Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden. After constant construction and perfection, it has collected and conserved more than 700 items of global lotus resources, more than 1,800 ponds (tanks) of living samples, including foreign populations from the United States, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Australia, and Myanmar. In addition, it has collected 205 kinds of lotus seeds of different provenances and varieties, 1,247 kinds of molecular materials, become the most representative resource nursery with the most complete lotus resources in the world. Due to the outstanding work achievements, in Oct. 2016, Chenshan Botanical Garden's lotus resource nursery was certified by the International Waterlily & Water Gardening Society (IWGS) as an "International Lotus Collection" and selected by China Flower Association as "One of the First 37 National Flower Germplasm Banks", attracted extensive attention both at home and abroad.

The International Lotus Collection's establishment provides a good sharing platform for promoting lotus research, science popularization and industrial development.
