During June 7-20, the China Union of Botanical Gardens Plant Taxonomy and Identification Training Class 2017 organized by Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden (Shanghai Chenshan Plant Science Research Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences) was successfully held at Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden. Fifty-three trainees from 47 botanical gardens (arboretums), colleges, universities, scientific research institutions, science and technology museums, enterprises and public institutions in 19 provinces and cities, including Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Anhui, Fujian, Shaanxi, Beijing and Shanghai, attended the training class.
The training class arranged 16 theoretical courses, including An Introduction to Plant Taxonomy Principles and Methods, Nomenclature and Latin Names for Plants, Gymnosperm Taxonomy, Fern Taxonomy and Identification, IT-Based Plant Resource Investigation and Taxonomy Management, Fine Plant Anatomy, 10 cutting-edge reports in professional fields, 10 days of field practice and specimen collection in Tianmu Mountain, as well as a knowledge contest, discussion and Q&A, appreciation of photos, examinations (field, theory) and other subjects. The total training time was more than 150 hours.
China Union of Botanical Gardens Plant Taxonomy and Identification Training Class has become a benchmark for domestic plant taxonomy training. Chenshan Botanical Garden's teaching team will continue to adhere to the teaching spirit of "truths and facts" and focus on cultivating the pioneers and backbones of plant taxonomy.
