International Training Workshop ”Botanical Garden Development and Management” 2018 was successfully held in Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden (CSBG) from Aug. 27th to Sep. 15th. 20 trainees from 15 countries participated in it. During 20 days, trainees listened to lectures from 11 teachers, visited different parts of CSBG with tour guides, visited Shanghai BG, Shanghai Natural History museum, traditional gardens, Hangzhou BG, and practiced wild collection skills in Tianmu Mountain. They also participated in "International Ethnobotany Show" in CSBG.
In the afternoon, Sep. 13th, the closing ceremony of the training was held, hosted by Hu Yonghong, executive director, CSBG.
First speech came from Mr. Zaw Min Tun, park manager of National Kandawgyi Gardens, Myanmar, on behalf of all trainees. He expressed appreciation to department of international cooperation, ministry of science and technology, the People’s Republic of China, International Association of Botanic Gardens (IABG), IABG Asian Division, CSBG for the organization and funding and many thanks to all teachers and staff.
Then Chen Xiaoya, Director of CSBG, Academician of the Chinese academy of science and Fang Yan, Deputy Director, Shanghai Landscaping and City Appearance Administrative Bureau made speeches expressing congratulations and blessings.
Last speech was from Zhao Xinli, Second-level researcher of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He emphasized” China has launched “the belt the road” action plan for scientific and technology innovation. Since 2017 to the future 5 years, China will arrange 2500 young scientists to come for short-term scientific research, train 5000 science & technology management personnel, and put 50 joint laboratories into operation. He hoped trainees could be messengers of this news.
A number of cooperation intentions have also been reached. 3 institutions from Pakistan and an institution from Bangladesh have reached Memorandum of understandings with CSBG to cooperate in plant exchange, wild collection, scientific research and staff training.
